Trout Lake is active outdoor and indoor all year round, with hiking, biking, horseback riding, hunting, fishing, climbing, rafting, skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, wildflower walks, eating and drinking, and of course just actively lazing around.
Gifford Pinchot National Forest is one of the oldest National Forests in the United States and covers most of Mt. Adams and Mt. St. Helens. The east side of Mt. Adams is part of the 1.4 million acre home of the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation.
The Pacific Crest Trail passes right through the area, and Trout Lake is a favorite place to rest, recoup, restock, and restart. Trout Lakers take pride in welcoming and helping through-hikers and day-trippers alike.

It’s that time again…the Third Saturday in May, will be here before you know it!
Saddle up to ride the glorious trails of the Gifford-Pinchot National Forest and the surrounding timberlands. Ride through the forests above Trout Lake Valley in the shadow of a snowcapped 12.276-foot volcano on excellent trails and old forest service roads. Good footing, beautiful loops, and views to knock you out of your saddle.
Anyone is welcome to participate in the Mt. Adams Endurance Ride. We have events for all levels of trail riders, from 12-to-25 mile trail rides for beginning endurance riders to 50-100 mile divisions for the more experienced competitors. Riders can also opt to compete in our 12-or-25 mile Mt. Adams Ride and Tie division where one horse and two rider/runners make a Ride & Tie team. All rides include moderate climbs and rocks, so hoof protection is strongly recommended.
The ride camp is located in a large grass meadow near the Mt. Adams Horse Camp. Weather can be very chilly at night, so come prepared. No open campfires are allowed, but ride-management approved, enclosed fires are allowed. There will also be a communal campfire near the vetting area. Visit the Mt. Adams Endurance Ride Facebook Page or the Endurance Ride website for more information.
